Yes, they’re shoes. Convertible shoes, made by an insurance company. Confused? Read on. UK car insurer eSure has a spinoff division called Sheila’s Wheels, which markets insurance to women. According to the site, national statistics show that 80% of women in Britain regularly wear inappropriate footwear when driving, including high heels and flip-flops.
So Sheila’s Heels were born. Regular stilettos by day, they fold down flat for driving, stowing the heel inside the sole for a scratch free journey (apparently scratched heels are a major problem. Who knew?). Sheila has thoughtfully put a grip pattern on the sole, too, for slip free pedal control.
The official page has no details on price or availability, but it does tell us that “It is illegal to drive barefoot in Scotland.”
